I was watching the VMI-Liberty Big South semifinal on ESPNU, and Jay Williams, the former Duke star and analyst for the game hit the nail right on the head - Liberty got caught up in VMI's run and gun game in the second half. The Flames, up 32-27 at half played a smart first half and slowed the pace down and had the Keydets out of rhythm. But the five point halftime lead quickly evaporated as VMI exerted their will, especially the Holmes twins, Chavis and Travis were dominant in the second half as the Keydets scored 51 second half points and won 78-58.
I heard during the broadcast that the Holmes twins, who combined for 38 points, wanted to go to college as a package and several schools turned them down for scholarships as a result. After watching this game, all I can say is nice work VMI! Also, I believe Liberty's Seth Curry was held scoreless in the second half and only had 10 points for the whole game. I still think a more seasoned disciplined team could much better deal with the frenetic VMI pace. Perhaps Radford will be that team. Their game with UNC Asheville should start in 15 minutes from now.
