Hell must have froze over in the CAA. Tonight, first place Northeastern lost at last place William and Mary while second place VCU with a chance to tie for first lost at next to last place UNC Wilmington 81-72. I was switching between both games tonight on ESPN360 and neither the Huskies or the Rams played well tonight. Eric Maynor had 21 points but shot 7 of 23 from the field, while UNCW shot 49 percent from the field. Meanwhile William and Mary shot 47 percent from the field tonight and held Northeastern to 7 of 26 from beyond the three point arc in their 68-63 win. The dual losses by the top two teams benefits George Mason who won last night and is now tied for VCU for second, one game behind Northeastern. Drexel may also benefit if they beat Delaware, but the Dragons and Blue Hens are currently tied at 43 with a little more than eleven minutes.
The bizarro night continued when I saw on the ESPN bottom line that Binghamton beat Vermont 85-83. The Bearcats had been down 53-30 at halftime before coming back to win on a layup with seven seconds left. The stunning loss knocks the Catamounts out of first in the America East.
What's next, #6 Wake Forest losing by 27 tonight? Oh wait...
